Groundbreaking Property Summit aims to Transform The Residential Sector to Enable “Housing For All”

To address the imperative of delivering housing for all South Africans, the country’s fragmented residential property sector must be transformed and unified. The Residential Investment & Development (Reside) Summit is spearheading the transformation. This year’s theme is “Transforming Spaces, Enriching Lives”. The 2024 summit takes place in Johannesburg from 16 to 19 July 2024.

As the country’s premier multisector conference dedicated to residential investment and development, this event unites industry stakeholders, to ignite critical conversations and drive actionable solutions to address the challenges and opportunities facing the sector. The Reside Summit is more than just a conference – it is a catalyst for crucial change in South Africa’s residential property landscape.

A key objective of the summit is to foster collaboration between governmental stakeholders and the private sector and break down barriers to residential development and investment. By bringing together key players from across the industry value chain, the summit aims to enable and incentivise private players to achieve housing for all, reduce development costs in the South African economy and enable swifter State approval of projects.

Supported by 30 industry bodies

Following the enormous success of the inaugural event last year, the 2024 Reside Summit has been expanded and enhanced. Reside Chair Debbie Tagg elaborates: “After the exceptionally well-received launch of Reside last year, our goal was to secure the participation of all key industry players and thought leaders in 2024, to ensure the comprehensive representation of all stakeholders. We are delighted to report that this year’s event has been bolstered by the support of an incredible 30 industry bodies, each contributing a unique perspective to the residential sector. These include the Housing Development Agency, National Home Builders Registration Council, National Housing Finance Corporation, the Property Practitioners Regulatory Authority and the Social Housing Regulatory Authority.”

Tagg says that what was truly exciting was that the inaugural two-day event sparked unanimous agreement among attendees on the critical need to unite the fragmented residential industry. The organisers have responded to this call with a four-day, six-event 2024 Reside Summit that offers the most comprehensive platform ever for knowledge exchange, collaboration and innovation for all role players from across South Africa’s entire residential property landscape. The areas covered by Reside 2024 include RDP, social and affordable housing, student accommodation, retirement estates and multi-family dwellings. Local government will also be represented and land opportunities explored. The event brings together all the diverse stakeholders shaping South Africa’s residential sector, from governmental agencies and private investors to construction firms and financial institutions. “By bridging the gaps between them, we can work together to unlock the potential of residential investment and development to drive economic growth, social inclusion and sustainable communities in South Africa,” Tagg states.

The 2024 Reside Summit encompasses six key events, namely the Reside Conference & Expo, Reside “InvestorCon”, Reside Masterclasses, Reside Local Government Showcase, Reside Awards and Reside RE-TECH (Real Estate Technology) Conference.

Essential event for property investors

InvestorCon is an essential event for property investors who want to improve and grow their businesses. It will deliver practical, powerful lessons, and includes a series of high energy evening workshops and network sessions. These have been split into three dedicated business streams. InvestorCon will examine topics like buying property to let, Airbnb and more.

Commenting on the significance of the Reside Summit, Myles Kritzinger, chief executive officer of the South African Multifamily Residential Rental Association (SAMRRA) says: “This event serves as a beacon of hope for South Africa’s housing future. As a proud partner of the summit, SAMRRA is committed to promoting multifamily rental as an attractive investment opportunity and driving positive change in the residential sector. Together, we can shape a brighter tomorrow for all South Africans.”

Reside 2024’s impressive lineup of attendees extends from banks, construction companies, developers, investors and insurers to pension funds, private equity firms, municipalities, local and national government. Last year, the event was commended for its informative sessions, high-calibre speakers and unparalleled networking opportunities. Testimonials from the 2023 conference underscored the event’s success. “The organisation of the event was top class,” commented Member of Parliament Tebogo Letsie.

“Reside 2024 is not to be missed gathering that will set new benchmarks, spark transformative discussions and chart a course towards a more inclusive and sustainable housing future for all South Africans,” concludes Tagg.
